Come discover Palmetto. Come discover yourself.
Just 40 miles off the Honduran Coastline is one of the “best kept secrets”, Roatan! Part of the Bay Islands, Roatan is the largest, at nearly 37 miles long, 2 miles wide, and about 800’ at its tallest point. Roatan is surrounded by pristine beaches, breathtaking beauty, friendly smiles, and the second largest reef system in the world, making it one of the world’s top diving destinations. It’s no wonder why everyone keeps coming back!
Getting to Roatan has never been easier than now. With direct flights from Houston, Atlanta, and Miami, you can be here in as little as 2 hours and 20 minutes time! United, Delta, and American Airlines all have direct flights from the states to Roatan, as well as Sunwing, who brings in the Canadians direct to the island.
The Bay Islands are blessed with annual temperatures of about 81 degrees F and nearly perfect weather. From a low in January of 78º F, to a high in August of 94º F, any month is a perfect time for a visit. Be sure and pack your sunscreen and expect a daytime high in the mid-80′s and 90′s, with nighttime lows in the 70′s. This is your opportunity to relax in the sun and work on your tan. Rainy season varies from year to year, but on average we can expect rain from October to February. During the rest of the year, rainfall is minimal unless there’s a storm in the Caribbean.
With over 150 named dive sites, and numerous un-named dive sites, there is no lack of reef to explore!

We do not have addresses or road signs, so we have put as many landmarks in the directions as we could for you, to find your way around!
Once you exit the airport, you will turn right (east) onto the main road. Travel on this road for approximately 12 to 15 minutes. Upon entering French Harbor, you will see a Mopleco Gas station on your right, the Mega Mall on your left, ACE Hardware store on your right, and so on. You will go over two speed bumps by the school. At the SUN gas station, turn right. Then turn right again into the parking lot, and drive south to the back of the parking lot to Eldon’s grocery store. (Roatan no longer offers plastic bags for groceries, so if you have cloth grocery bags at home, bring them with you.)
Once you are done grocery shopping, make your way back out to the main road, and turn left (west). You will go back over the two speed bumps, towards the mall. Immediately after the mall, take the first right straight up the dirt road, and stay on this road for approximately 4 to 5 min. You will then see a very hard turn to the left, heading up hill again, take that left. Once on that road, you will drive for another 6 to 8 min. Enjoy the view from the very top of the island, where you can see both north and south shores. You will end up at the bottom of the hill and enter Palmetto. We will let the front gate know that you will be arriving, and at that point you may enter Palmetto.
We highly recommend Ramirez Rent a Car. You can contact them through their website www.ramirezrentacar.com. AVIS is another great car rental company, located at the airport. You can book a car through them by visiting their website www.avis.com/car-rental/reservation/time-place.ac
Each car rental place will give you a map of the island, so be sure to ask for one. They might also offer a discount, if you pay in cash.
